September offshore-Red snapper, red grouper, yellowtail, gag grouper and more!
September has been a bit of a transition month.. the hot, stale summer temperatures start to be met with the occasional cool front makings its way from up north bring a glimpse to f Fall patterns and the Green light for some epic offshore fishing.
We loaded up the Salty Beast with a couple hundred pounds of ice, a cooler full of bait and enough rod combos to make your local Bass Pro Shop jealous.
Our crew of 2 arrived and after the quick safety speal we pushed on out in search of fish for the box.
We made our way out dodging the late summertime storms making a nice comfortable ride out and getting to watch a pair of funnel clouds dancing in the distance.
Lines down and immediate hook ups on American red snappers. We sorted thru a few and put a few in the box and a couple in the livewell in hopes of upgrading later.
Client asked about getting into grouper and Told him those were next on the list. We made a quick move and anchored on the spot and in short order we boxed a quick 2 person limit of red grouper along with lots of would be keeper throwbacks. After playing there for a while, we moved spots and worked on some other snapper species.
A couple stud mangroves, then a handful of yellowtail snapper, porgies, a ajumbo triggerfish nd vermillion made their way into the box.
We made another move looking for some gag grouper. We pulled up to the spot and dropped down a couple bigger baits. First gets inhaled and it’s a 1/8 inch short. Next big hookup pulled the hook. 3rd was the charm and we boxed a solid keeper gag. We added another good size red snapper to the mix before ponying up for the ride home.
A great day of bending rods in the Gulf of America with lots of fillets for our Midwest crew.
